Oshiame is well known as an imaginative user of the pastel medium in Nigeria today. His pastel and oils capture everyday rural Nigeria people going to the market or their farms; he tends to focus on the rural areas rather than the big city. He shows anxiety and hunger in people’s faces as they fight for survival, it’s an interesting and uneasy balance. He tries to capture deprivation and joy.
Oshiame Toni was born in Lagos and is a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo state, where he obtained an OND and HND in General Art and Painting respectively between 1990 and 1995. Over the years, he has become an established name in the Nigerian art circle with his unchangingly versatile content in his pastels and acrylic mediums. He has earned himself international recognitions with his paintings that adorn the homes and offices of many art enthusiasts, each piece of visual treat, painstakingly depicting the rich African culture. Oshiame Toni is currently the vice chairman of the society of Nigeria Artist (SNA) FCT chapter, Abuja.
