ARTISTChike Obeagu

The unity of his design is achieved by a binding organization of parts, with each part lending a somewhat complex but strong attachment to the other, forming a mastery of technique that gives his paintings a peculiar expressive force.

A multi-talented artist, Chike Obeagu finds creative expression through painting, photography, installation art, and poetry. Born in 1975, Chike exhibited great interest in art during the early stages of his life, winning numerous art awards in his early school years. He trained at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in 1998 and 2003 respectively.

In his undergraduate days, Chike Obeagu experimented with a photo collage technique; the experiment was informed by the need to find a viable and economical means to express his art. Geometric and colorful compositions are what his works are known for, though appearing flat; they are created with depth of size and perception. The unity of his design is achieved by a binding organization of parts, with each part lending a somewhat complex but strong attachment to the other, forming a mastery of technique that gives his paintings a peculiar expressive force.
He bears his views and opinion on the social and political scenes in Nigeria through the use of his art. A recipient of many awards and grants, Chike has participated in exhibitions, residencies, and workshops in Nigeria, Senegal, Italy, South Africa, USA, UK, and China. His works have gained acceptance all over the world.
He is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of FABA (For Artists by Artists) Studios, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting emerging talents in Nigeria and he is also an instructor with the Art is Everywhere Project and presently teaches visual and creative arts at the Federal University Lafia, Nasarawa State.
